Best Buy's
I thought this may be a good addition to the site, where everyone can share bargains they have purchased or special offers they have seen.
I bought bright plant labels in Sainsbury's yesterday for just 74p for a packet of fifteen, the bright colours mean when the boy's bury them I have more chance of retrieving them! What a Bargain. I tried to stick a photo here, but can't get it work, so I will blog one.
I have also posted recently that they have cheap jam jars and covers available online at the moment.
I look forward to seeing everyone else bargains!
Hayley
Hi Haley, they are great bargains, the shops I like best are poundland and 99p stores, there are some good bargains to be had in the gardening section. I also managed to get some chicken wire for £4.99 when Focus closed down, although it was sad to see the staff lose their jobs.
Last week I bought a spade and fork from Tesco's both for £16, they are both light and small, more like the old fashioned lady forks. I find normal ones too heavy and only use these for removing couch grass etc.
Our local Wilkinson's have got a half price sale on their gardening stuff so hopefully all stores have.

Hi Theresa and others,
I have to use "ladies" stuff as well the larger tools are just too long and heavy for me.
I have found a great website for seeds, which are sold in set packets or in grams, it comes highly recommended from a friend on the plot. I just typed in Wallis and the website came up, but I think you can also request a catalogue if you prefer not to order on line. Most packets are under £1 and the postage is next to nothing. My friend has been using them for many years years and has never had an issue. I will definatley be using them in the future.

seems like im on my own then- i dont have any 'lady' sized tools! I was offered one, but to be honest, i looked at it and thought- thats bloody tiny; it will take twice as long with that! lol

Hello Ladies
The tools you refer to are really border forks and spades and as you all well know as well as being lighter they are very handy for digging out deep rooted perennial weeds but beware, if you buy new ones cheap they tend to bend and break very easily. Keep look out on Ebay and car boots and you can pick up tools very cheap
After saying all that I am still using my gradad's neverbend spade and I still use my stainless fork and spade which I had for my 21st birthday and most people know how old I am I shudder to think how much they cost now but it poses the question are they worth it As I battle on with 4 allotments I think it is best to save up and buy quality then you gradually build a tool set that will last forever with proper care
Happy gardening

I subscribe to the opinion that you should always buy the best tools you can afford.
This does not have to be the heaviest but you should not use a lighter weight ( Ladies ) spade or fork to do heavy duty work.
Stainless tools have the merit of tolerating neglect when left out in all weathers.
