Books that may come in handy!
Hi Everyone
I would just like to let you know that if anyone is looking for books for reference material I could recommend 2 to you! Firstly The vegetable and herb expert. By Dr D.G. Hessayon. ISBN 978-0-903-50546-8, this book is great as it takes the vegetabe, gives a brief explaination of it, and types, shows a picture of the seed and size of the seed, tells you what type of soil is needed, when to sow, plant and harvest, how to look after it, when to harvest, which varieties then any pests and how to eliminate them! it really is worth the £7.99 from good book shops and Homebase do it too, I got mine on 10%day! so cost less again! the second one, is Practical allotment Gardening By Caroline Foley. This gives lots of information on how to set things up on your allotment, what you need as a basic start, what you can use on your allotment safely and also some bits on how to store your abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables! This was off Amazon, and was quite cheap not 100% how much but less than £10.
Anyone on my allotment is free to ask to take a look at them just let me know!

Hi Jayne
I will look out for the books you mentioned.
I love books and have a great number on growing veg, but yesterday my dad was telling some1 about my brussels (boo hoo, dont ask) on my allotment and he gave him a book its a Alan Titchmarsh The Allotment Gardners Handbook. Its an old book as Alan is very young on cover.(Not that he looks old now, just incase he reads this, lol) I think its the best book I have. All the veg is listed A-Z and really clear advice.
Also a good read is Diggers Diary. Really well written by a fellow allotmonteer.
Regards
Karen
