Look at these gorgeous chickens at Hackney City Farm. How about some poultry fancying at Harleston allotments?

I think we should be alloud chickens but its convincing the powers that be its a good idea can't see it happening though

Chickens

I think Chickens can only be of benefit. The allotment rules adopted by the town council were actually a wholesale copy of those used by Norwich where the issue of crowing cockerals is more significant than on the patch of ground nowhere near snoozing residents.

Chicken owneres will not let them roam randomly as they would loose too many eggs (and birds to predators) so no problem with neighbouring plots. I would suggest that ther is a maximum percentage of plot that be given over to birds to stop chicken farmers taking over vegetable plots and that guidance be taken on the maximum number of chickens per square whatever.

Also the Metfeild allotments have chucks so why not pick thier brains?

We up for a chicken debate

We up for a chicken debate at the AGM - can anyone who (unlike me) is fit to get up to the allotments do a bit of a straw poll about peoples thoughts?

Actually just posting to see

Actually just posting to see if the picture has worked but that aside - what about other lives stock - ironically some keep rabbits but I think this might be a bit risky!

Chickens

Yes, very nice chickens and I would like some just like that.

Chickens

The 'contract' we each signed with the council states that we will not keep any livestock at the allotment. But, as I understand it, the position in law is that allotment holders are allowed to keep chickens and rabbits. So it is perhaps something we could push for, if enough people wanted chickens. I don't think we need any more rabbits.
