Hi, I have about 30ft by 15ft plot to develop for vegetables. What would be a really basic vegetable plan for a complete novice. I'm probably more interested in staying away from high maintenance crops as I'm only home at weekends. Absolutely ANY advice is welcome. Thanks, simon

New plot

Hi Simon

I got my plot nearly 2 years ago, so am still a relative novice, however, these are a few things I have learned:

- Easy things to grow (and gratifying!): pointy cabbages, brussels, rocket, strawberries, spuds, beans, broccoli, garlic, onions, herbs, leeks

- Buying little plants gives me much better results than seeds (although I keep trying with seeds - I think I just don't give them enough attention as I am always short of time!)

- cover most things with big-holed net to keep the pigeons out and the let the bees in

- don't hold back on the organic slug repellant!!!!!

- cover up areas you aren't planning to use with weed control fabric or black plastic, otherwise, you spend all your time trying to keep on top of the weeds

Have fun on your allotment!

Sue
