DOCUMENTARY ON ALLOTMENT LIFE
DOCUMENTARY ON ALLOTMENT LIFE
WILD PICTURES are an independent television production company based in London that specialises in quality, high end access based documentaries for all the major broadcasters like including BBC1, BBC2, ITV1 and Channel 4.
We have just been commissioned to make a prime time documentary on the world of allotments. This will be an affectionate, warm, funny and intelligent film about life inside allotments as well as celebrating what allotments have to offer. We are currently casting the net far and wide - looking for great characters and unfolding stories. A documentary is an evolving process – but I’d imagine we are looking for a range of stories and characters like: self-confessed allotment addict; people whose allotment is their lifeline; a small site of charismatic plot-holders who are like a family; “allotment wars” - the genteel rivalries building up to the biggest veg competitions or best-kept allotment; and the allotment politics or perhaps stories of evictees who feel their allotment committee is a little over-zealous or an Allotment Officer trying to shift an increasingly absent or lazy plot holder…!
We are just beginning our research for stories. I’d imagine filming won’t begin til end of Feb/early March during the sowing period. So we’re looking for stories along these lines…:
Are you passionate about your allotment – a self-confessed allotment addict? Does it take up most of your waking hours?!
Maybe you’ve won growing competitions like the biggest or the best fruit or veg?
Are you part of a group of allotmentees who have become like a family to you?
Do you have a charismatic allotment neighbour who has been there for years?
Are you part of a highly prized allotment with a very long waiting list?
Are you part of a self-run allotment committee – do you deal strictly with those allotmentees who neglect their plot?
Has your allotment become the subject of strife for whatever reason?
How competitive are you or your fellow allotmentees?
Do your fellow allotmentees drive you mad because their raspberry bushes are more bountiful or because their patch is a disgrace?
Does your Allotment Officer rule with a rod of iron?!
I’d love to hear from you, if you think your allotment has something going on about that we should hear about then please do get in touch.
My direct line is 0207 428 5627 or email emma@wildpictures.co.uk and tell us in a short paragraph or two about your allotment etc.
best wishes
