First allotment

ccarpenter's picture

Hello everyone

Im so excited I have my first allotment and can't wait to get started. I would appreciate any advice and tips. I have a 5 rod (whatever that is) which I shall be viewing next Tuesday.

The things I am thinking of planting are potatoes, onions, carrots, few herbs, strawberries.

So come on fellow allotmenteers advise away.

Regards
Chrissie

Lucky

Hi Chrissie,

yr so lucky. I'm still on the waiting list in my area at the moment. When I get mine, I'm going to do raised beds to make it easier and I'm going totally organic.
I grow some veg and fruits at home at the moment and I grow my strawberries in hanging baskets - that way they don't get loads of slugs and bugs eating them. :-)
I'm also growing raspberries, blackcurrant and blackberries - if I get a good crop I'll have to learn to make jam!
I can't wait to get my allotment, yr so lucky. let me know how you get on.

Unless you live in an area where it is quite sandy Carrots will be quite hard to grow. The other stuff sounds fine, if you could build a raised bed etc that would make it easier.

Hi Flat cap mad
Thanks for the advice I will start making a raised bed, it will make a change from digging.
