Hi Everyone

My family and I have eventually managed to get an allotment (plot 29) and are looking forward to getting digging this winter. Is there any advice any one can give us regarding setting up, getting hold of supplies/manure/pallets etc. We have 2 small children a 4 year old boy and a 2 week old girl is there anyone else with young families with ideas to get the kids interested?

Any and all advice will be gratefully accepted.

Thanks

Chris Jordan.

happy to help

I invited you onto here ages ago christopher and you just laughed at me! You can get hold of pallets from stores at work i think but i think you need help about what to do with your swampy bit? We've (james anyway) just started digging over some of the old beds. Would be handy to know what grows well in our soil though...

Help for newbies

Hello to all you new allotmenteers and welcome to the website I am an old wrinkly with 4 allotments who has been associated with gardens and gardening for over 50 years If you don't know anything about gardening at all the forst thing to do is to learn what perennial weeds are and how to recognise their roots because most of them will not be showing at this time of year
Join your local garden association it only costs 2or 3 ponds a year and from there you can participate in the seed scheme where you will save your annual fee many times over and the knowledge gained from other plot holderswill prove invaluable.
If you are people with young families go to the home page on this site and look for
4bfieldhouse then go to her blogs there you will find a wealth of information and photographs showing what can be achieved by hard work and dedication
Any information I or fellow posters can help you with don't hesitate to ask.All pictures are most appreciated then by studying them that helps us to help you.
Best of luck and happy gardening
Lottyman
PS 4bfieldhouse is a young working mum with two little boys and she lives on the Isle of Wight

Welcome!

Hi There Chris and Jessica & James and respective families,
I am Jayne the site secretary, just thought I would introuce myself, if you want to pop and give me a shout when youre on I will introduce myself if I see you before. We open the shop onsite when the weather starts to get better as we dont see any point opening up when there is no one there. I will pop a notice in the hut notice board to let everyone know when we will be re opening the shop.
Happy gardening guys!
Jayne
