Getting an Allotment
In my area there are about 46 people on the waiting list for an allotment I have contacted the local town council and the county council to request that more land is aquired for allotments all I get is excuses please can anyone help me with any advice of where i go now to force these people to get more land.
If you know who is in charge of any of the plots (usually there is a person form each site who looks after aspects of it), it might be worth contacting them directly. I have heard on alot of sites there are neglected plots, but the council does not have the funds to chase them up promptly. So maybe by talking to someone from the sites and show how keen you are, you might just get bumped up the que... after all a neglected plot is a nuisance! And if u show you are not going to neglect it then who knows ... :)
If you get six or more people on the waiting list together, you can put it in writing to put pressure on the council to provide land for an allotment,i got this info from www.farmgarden .org.uk
You can also send an email using the Freedom of Information Act and ask the council what their policy is on creating new plots. They have to reply within 20 working days. However, this acts only applied to local councils.
could you get you area mp to help, well they keep bleeting on about they are there to help, here in plymouth at one of the disabled q/a PART OF A DISABLED PERSON CONFERANCE , my MP did cover the way our local council fobbed people off, on allotment waiting list, also there were plenty of plots not been used or abandend,so there are plenty of plots out there over grown but thats to be expected, give it a shot maybe an offical push may help.
Hi Michael 1964
In the legislation about six people being able to pressure the council to provide land for allotments there is also a phrase ' if suitable land is available'
