How you get groats
You earn groats as you perform actions on the site like posting forum topics, starting groups, adding blog entries, uploading pictures, inviting new users and more.
How you use them
Use them to barter with other allotmenteers in the classified ads section of the forum. Seeds, plants, excess vegetables and fruit, tools, sheds, greenhouses - the sky's the limit!
How it works
An allotmenteer posts a forum topic offering, for example, 20 seeds for a rare, Victorian type of marrow - price five groats. He can decide if the post is only visable to his group or can be seen by all allotmenteers nationally. Anyone interested can contact him and arrange to collect them or have them delivered. The buyer them transfers five groats to the seller.

The advantages of Groats
*They allow allotmenteers to barter excess produce (gluts etc) as actually selling produce is against most allotments' rules.
*Allotmenteers can barter services. For example, older allotmenteers could earn groats by sharing their experience and expertise on the forum and then exchange the groats for help digging their plot.
But don't spend them all at once
Once the site's well-established, we'll be seeking deals with online gardening retailers so that allotmenteers can swap their groats for discounts and goods.
