Summer BBQ

23rd July (Saturday) 4pm onwards.
Bring your own food to cook on BBQ and your own drink.
Committee to provide salad and rolls.
We won't be selling tickets for this one, but if you could let a committee member know if you're coming or not, it would be helpful.
Thanks
Eileen

Breaking Ground

The Gala evening at the Swan went really well, I'm told, though I missed it as I was in Cornwall at the time. There is still a chance to see the professional exhibition at Harleston Gallery, which runs through September. This is where you will also see the tiles which the children made.

Spirit of the Blitz

Happy Solstice!

Under heavy fire from the elements, bombarded by gales and ambushed by rain, the allotmenteers show their usual pluck at the summer barbecue.

Breaking Ground

Lots going on with the Breaking Ground arts project over the summer. See the inside back page of the Harleston &Waveney Festival brochure for details. Poetry competition, children's poetry workshop, garden gnome sculpture workshop, storytelling at the library and at the Swan and two art exhibitions. Take your pick.

Plaques

Sample plaques

These are the tiles the kids made. Simple but satisfying, like fish and chips at the beach.

Making Plaques at Primary School

The lovely KATE and EILEEN

Kate and Eileen ran a stall the school's Nature Day on 1st May, showing kids how to make plaques (or tiles) using objects pressed into a plasticine mould which was then cast in plaster. All the kids enjoyed the activity and we had a good range of ages taking part. We'll be doing more as part of the Breaking Ground project. Watch this space.

Allotment magazine

The NSALG (National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners) magazine is now available to read in Harleston library. Please leave the magazine in the library so that everyone can have a chance to read it.

Have Your Say... and don't forget the allotments!

Hopefully every Harleston resident now has at least one yellow 'Have Your Say' leaflet floating around their home. It seems like a really good opportunity to ask the council for allotment-related things, like more plots/another site for starters!

Cheap Onion Sets

Barbara from Metfield Allotment Association is offering cheap onion sets to our members. She has Red Barron, Sturon and Red Shallots. Prices are £1.00/half kilo to Allotment Association Members, £1.20/half kilo to non-members. She is happy to mix a bag of onion sets if half a kilo is too big. And Peter Metcalf, our fearless leader, is happy to to co-ordinate our order.
Any takers?
Eileen
