Help - allotment about to be taken
Hi, advice needed. I was given my allotment in December and have been there every week digging it over, so far I have spent hours working it and removing roots to the point where I have all my March seeds planted and 70% is dug over and the remainging 30% is under a tarpaulin until I can tackle it. The agreement with me having this plot was that I was to help the new plot holder behind with burning the material that was chopped down from both plots and pulled up to one plot, a came from my plot this was only fair.
The owner of the plot behind has not been seen for 6 months since it was issued to him, speaking with the head of the allotment society she said she was going to contact him about clearing it and to see if someone else wanted it since he was not working it. His response was that his plot is infact the plot I have been working and I have since had a phone call today from the council and the lady who runs the allotment society saying that there has been an error and I infact don't rent my current plot but the one behind that is 10ft high with all the materials piled there, and that he wants to start work and pick up where I have been working .
The lady who runs the society is suggesting we share the plot for the first year and clear the plot behind to get it under way for next year. Does anyone have any advice? I'm really worried that I don't have a leg to stand on if he says he wants the plot and that everything I will have done up to now will have gone to waste and I will have to start again, if this is the case I won't be able to plant anything until at least June.

taken allotment
mutti Posted at 21:56 on Mon, 03/30/2009go with the sharing, just make sure you get him to work on the hardest unworked parts and i'll bet after a couple of visits he will disapear for good, and you will then get it back.
good luck
This is unfair why when you
christo Posted at 16:02 on Tue, 03/31/2009This is unfair why when you started the work did the lady who runs the allotment society not state this to you,the person who says it is his should be made to get the other plot the same as the one you have just done the work on.
I feel sorry for you that you have to go though this good luck {cazzabean}

cazzabean Posted at 07:09 on Tue, 04/07/2009Peace talks started yesterday properly after an initial conversation where he said he would not share anything with me. End result is he gets the plot, but I will get everything that I have planted and he will help me clear and burn the back plot, no mean feat, I have spent 10 hrs there this weekend and am now halfway through it. He is going to dig over some of my plot to keep for himself this year and then next year when all of my stuff is out of the ground we will officially swap and we can both keep our respective plots. So a pretty successful outcome which I am happy about, my next door neighbours were all up in arms and talking about how wrong it all was, so with it all resolved everyone can get on again and hopefully grow shed loads. There is a lot of work ahead though. Thanks.

good result
Michael1964 Posted at 11:51 on Sun, 11/28/2010Glad you've got a result, if the council made the mistake the council should help get your plot ready for planting as a good will gesture, when i got my plot it had been used for storage for 2 years so they had it rotorvated for me because a fork/spade just bounced off it cos it was rock hard.
