Holland Road Allotments, Halewood, Merseyside

Hi All,

I have a half plot at Holland Road Allotments, Halewood, Merseyside. Have a look at our website at www.hollandroadallotments.btik.com to see what we are up to. I got my plot 4 months ago and and now totally addicted!!! The plot was very much derelict, totally overgrown with no raised beds in situ or anything. I have started by clearing out a small section at a time and now I have 4 raised beds ready to start planting. I have planted Japanese Onion Sets in one of the raised beds and cannot wait!!!! It's very sad that I got so excited just because the shoots came above soil level. I'm a genius, I know! haha.

I grew some radishes and turnips, just to get something in the ground and say I had grown something. They only took a few weeks from start to finish and both were gorgeous.

Mum bought me a rubharb to put in the ground and I am going to have the one and only swede I grew today with my Sunday dinner. Why did I only grow one swede???? Who knows. But I'm a genius - I grew it and it will taste delicious - even if it's horrible, it will be delicious to me. :) :)

I have not the faintest idea what I am doing now. Can you share your ideas, tips with me? Advise me what to grow - and when!
