How to stop dog barking

Hi everyone,

Anyone had any experience of their dog barking on their plot. My little Westie is so territorial that she barks her head off whenever anyone comes with 100 yards of my plot - basically if there is anyone else on the allotment site!

She's great company when we're on our own on the plot but unbearable for me and the other allotmenteers when she starts sounding off. It's such a shame - I'm going to have to start leaving her at home.

Any ideas?

The answer

I had exactly the same problem - and with a Westie! I found the answer was in an anti-bark collar that picks up the barking noise through a sensor and emits a puff of air which distracted her and stopped her barking.

I think the collars might be a bit cruel to use all the time - after all, Westie's are usually born barkers and it seems a shame not to let them have a bit of fun - but it was fine for an hour or two on the plot. She had a bit of a sniff around instead of barking herself sensless, I got on with some digging, and the neighbouring plot-holders weren't driven mad.
