I Have just Joined
Just wanted to say hi to Every one
My Wife and myself have just taken on a allotment in Redhill Surrey
We have a lot of work in front of us but we are very Keen and looking forward to the rewards.
Hello Mick and ? (can't keep calling her wife) welcome to the site.
While we are snowed in now is the time to go back to the home page and click on the forum and read previous posts, there I feel sure you will find loads of ideas and information to help you to be successful with your new plot
While you are on home page click on groups and by scrolling down I think you will find your local group inviting you to join It's also a good iidea to read other peoples blogs and there you can see what can be achieved by hard work and determination and all the home grown produce cannot be bettered. Oh! and by the way, I've been gardening over 50 years.Anything Allotment related just ask. If I don't know I usually know somebody who does
Happy gardening
Lottyman
Hi Lottyman
I agree would be strange for you to keep calling her the wife, Her name is Lesley
Yes the snow is here and ruined Our sunday plans we were going to our plot this weekend and putting our polly tunnel up (a real bargin from Ebay) but never mind I am sure its not going to be the first weekend for the weather to stop us.
I do thank you for your offer on advise and i do have a question
I brought some Blackcurrent and raspberry Plants from wilkos they a shooting really well but due to frost and snow i dont now when is a good time to put then in the ground ?
Kind Regards
Mick
Hello Mick and Lesley
As soon as the ground is frost free make sure it is clean then sprinkle blood fish and bone 2-4 ozs per square yard then plant the raspberries in rows. If your plants are bare rooted they will be fine but make sure you don't let them dry out. Roots wrapped in old rags and kept moist they will be ok for quite a while. You don't say whether the raspberries are summer or autumn fruiting because they both need different pruning Treat the Black currants in a similar way if they are bare rooted but normally they are grown in pots then planted out when conditions allow
Hope that helps
Lottyman
