good to hear from you
biobits Posted at 23:17 on Fri, 05/07/2010Hi
well it is now the 2 of us - thats a 100% rise in membership - lol
I actually stood on my plot for the first time today, and boy its a mess - it will take me till xmas to clear the rocks and roots on the surface.
so hows your plot going?
don`t let it put you off
Tanya Posted at 11:49 on Sat, 05/08/2010you may look at your plot and think what have I let myself in for.
when you start mark out an area say the width of your plot by 10 foot. dig it removing as much weeds as you can, then start sowing seeds or plant plants that you have bought after you have done this move on to the next 10 foot and before you know you`ll have your plot done.
if you can get some old carpet or black gardening fabric to try and keep down the weeds.
I`m on my third year now and still removing the docks, dandilions and couch grass.
happy digging
And the there were three
Chuffing_Nora Posted at 22:12 on Sat, 05/08/2010Hi Tanya, Hi Biobits
Been on my new plot too... took about 150 house bricks - no kidding! and various other bits of wood stones, steel tube! etc. going to hire a rotovator and tackle half of it this year and once things are growing spend time getting t'other 'alf into shape. Speaking to one of my new neighbours this plot I'me on hasn't done much over previous years to I am going to try and put that right.
things come in useful
Tanya Posted at 09:02 on Sun, 05/09/2010try and keep some of those things , bricks come in useful when trying in weight things down in the winter months and cloches in spring. steel tube how longare they? if long enough can be used either end to support bean canes.
Hiring a rotovator is the quickest way in the short term but in the long term you will have cut all the grass roots and weeds into little bits so will multiply your problem the best way is by hand, there is still time to get things sown and if you can start things off at home even better .
happy planting
potatoes, potatoes potatoes!
biobits Posted at 13:09 on Sun, 05/09/2010HI Guys,
Well i am now the proud owner of numerous rows of potatoes. Good old dad came down and did it for me - yay! Hubby is doin exams so can t chip in till end of next week but at least we have started. Still no water on the site though.
Beans will be ready to go in next week but there is a lot of stone pulling up before that can be done. Good luck to all
Spuds, spring onions , lettuce
Chuffing_Nora Posted at 20:40 on Mon, 05/17/2010Hi all
Got me spuds in , got a rotovator last weekend,it broke half way through saturday, luckily hire shop still open and they recovered it off the plot, apologized and bringing me another next saturday. I know its not quite the same as digging but this plot hasn't been touched for years and will have to start somewhere. Will keep me out of mischief hand picking weeds from here to eternity but hey, thats what is all about. Did a few beds and got some lettuce, and spring onion seed sown, be good to have something growing this year. Got some cabbage and beet to do yet.
Happy digging
Gary
Spuds and beans
biobits Posted at 14:51 on Tue, 05/18/2010Good to hear your plot is progressing - i was sposed to ge all our beans in today but got side tracked again, All we have is spuds up on the plot but i vow to get my poor beans planted out tomorrow (unless its raining1)
spent ages last night planning out my plot ( even had a little bench in it) on a free trail garden planner programme http://www.smallblueprinter.com/garden/planner.html
and it looks lovely! all we have to do is actually create it now - gulp!
Happy digging
