In search of sun

As it has been 5 weeks since my operation and the rain still hasn't stopped, I'm still not allowed to lift or dig, how depressing is that! Well I'm off to Turkey today... I leave in an hour! Hopefully a couple of weeks in the sun will help me recuperate and recharge my batteries. Then when I come home I will be able to focus all my energies into preparing for spring. I really hate wishing my life away but I can't help it, I can't wait until next year, I'm so excited. With the knowledge I have learnt this year aided by a lot of enthusiasm I know it will be great, I visualise it everyday.
At the moment my allotment is bear and very, very waterlogged, in fact it looks like the tide has come in over the whole site but in my minds eye it is a beautiful lush growing paradise, I even picture the problems all in my head, black fly invading my broad beans lol now even i think that's weird lol. But the perfect allotment includes all these things and I'm quite happy with my lot although the marestail and the slugs are pushing it a bit lmao.
Anyway I'll be back in a few weeks
Happy digging all

New Allotment

Hello Denise,
I got my allotment in March this year. Totally neglected covered in weeds and nettles. Its not quiet a full plot but the thoughts of trying to clear and dig the plot at a faster pace than the weeds were growing was quite worrying.
Anyway helpful advise from neighbourly allotmenteers was this. Cut as much down to ground level and rake off. Then buy some black 4meter x 2 metre black sheets from B&Q gardening dept smoother about 3/4 of the plot.
Concentrate on digging and getting nettle roots out off the exposed areas.
Within a short time I had a good cleared area and soon managed to get my early potatoes in ( these really do help to break up the soil). Gradually I uncovered small areas and continued. I still have about 1/4 to clear but have had lots of veg including main crop potatoes and not many weeds.
The longer you leave the covers on the neetle roots and weeds are dead and dig up quite easily.
Hope this info is helpful
