Introduction
Hi everybody,
My name is Dave and I have been an allotmenteer for over 20 years, 16 of which have been on my present allotment which I inherited from a retiring neighbour and it included a 8' x 16' greenhouse.
My site is not large and is classed as a half by our local council. The overall size is 58' x 25' and includes a solar shed and greenhouse.
My interest in the allotment waned as my "old" green house deterioated and I expected to go out after any strong wind and find it flattened. Earlier this year I recycled an unwanted Solar shed and a greenhouse, the taking down and refurbishing took quite a lot of work but once errected my enthusiasm was back on track and although I was a bit late in planting, I received encouragment and assistance from my neighbouring allotmenteers. The proof is in the results, I have had really good early, second early and maincrop potatoes. Leeks, onions, caulis, cabbage have all been a success.
I have Tayberries grown along wires on one side fence with good results and the Raspberries (late variety) are just starting to produce good fruit.
I am back on track and have just arranged to work a third of an allotment opposite mine to grow potatoes in next year and help relieve the pressure on the owner as she is finding it a bit too much, this will give me more space in my garden to experiment and she can help herself to the potatoes grown on her patch.
Must go and shut the greenhouse - will report again soon. -- Dave.
