Late Start
I've just been allocated and allotment (Typical that is is near the end of the planting season)
I'm asking if and what I can still plant at this late stage. I'm hoping that the long winter will help as the climate is still slightly behind the calander.
Hi Robby - welcome to allotmentering, personally I would have a go at planting most things as the hard long cold spell has hindered most vegetable flourishing. ask nicely around your fellow allotmenteers and see if anything is going spare so that you can get an immediate start - otherwise buy a few plants from your local market or garden centre to give you something to grow.
I cant understand why allotment are always allocated at this tim of year as the planting season would normally be over, we still have three allotments on our site which are awaiting new owners.
Best of luck and enjoy.
yeah, I'd try almost anything (plants mainly, might be a bit late for seeds) Robbie - it might be a bit late for spuds and onion sets, but I'd put a few in if you can find them, just to see what happens. I''v grown most things in my plastic greenhouse things, from seeds, and I'm only just putting in my little leeks and beetroot now. Also, I planted beans plants two weeks ago and they perished due to frost so I had to start again! They are hardening off in the garden at the moment, and I plan to put them in next week. there's still time for courgettes and squashes, and things like lettuce and spinach will be fine too.
