Hi everyone,

I've got a lot of spare strawberry plants if anyone wants any - one groat each!

Recycled compost

Hi,

I'm told some local councils are offering free compost made from recycled food waste - does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks,

Parakeets

BUSYBEE's picture

I spent an interesting evening last Friday watching the parakeets feeding on the sunflowers on the site. Has everyone else noticed them?

Manure

Hi,
I'm told that someone comes and delivers large loads of manure to the allotment - does anyone know contact details for him/her?
Thanks...

Help with woodchip

tumbledown's picture

Apparently two loads of woodchip have been dropped by the community hut and need to be taken up to the Show area.

Plot-holders are being asked if they can help move it when they go to the allotment.

"If we all take up a couple of loads it will be cleared in no time," says the announcement.

Sheared tap

Mike's picture

Does anyone who who we should talk to about a broken tap?

The tap has sheared on our nearest water tank - near plot 102 - and is now almost impossible to turn on or off.

It's really inconvenient but we're most worried about turning it on and not being able to turn it off again.

It's been like this for a while now.

Any suggestions gratefully received.......

International Lunch

tumbledown's picture

Just in case anyone doesn't know about it already - there is an International Lunch tomorrow (Sunday 13 July) at 1pm in the Community Hut.

Cost is £2 per person - Bring In Your Favourite Dish from Your Home Country and Share It.

Friends and Family Welcome

Runner bean plants

A lot of my runner beans were eaten by slugs so I bought a tray of young plants to fill in the gaps.

I've got half a tray left and it seems a shame to just let them die. So if anyone wants them......8 plants for 1 groat. (I'm only charging for them so I can put them in the 'For Sale' section.)

Reply to this post or pm (private message) me to collect

Squashes wanted

The recnt cold winds have killed off most of my young Squash plants - does anybody have any replacements left over that I can buy for groats? Particularly looking for yellow pattypans....

I will come and collect obviously.

Farmyard manure

Quick heads up:

You can get well rotted farmyard manure from Freightliners City Farm in Sheringham Road, Islington.

It costs £2.50 bag for pre bagged. It's much cheaper if you come and dig it out yourself though.

Straw for strawberries

Can anybody tell me why you should put straw under strawberries - should you do it once the fruit starts to ripen or earlier?

This is only the second year I've grown them but I didn't put anything under them last year and they seemed fine.
