JOBS FOR NOVEMBER
algynon Posted at 10:15 on Sun, 11/09/2008If you are lucky enough to have a polytunnel or greenhouse on the plot you can still set winter lettuce and all year round cauliflowers also broad beans in pots
If the leaves have dropped off the black currants cut back to ground level about a third of the old wood and I just trim the rest of the shoots lightly to try and keep a good shaped open bush There are many other jobs to do but I think thats enough to be going on with
Jobs for the winter.
digger65 Posted at 08:05 on Tue, 12/30/2008I spend most of the winter months going over the successes and failures i had in the previous season and try to figure out what went wrong seeking advice from other gardeners who might have made the same mistakes.
Then its looking at and carrying out repairs to the shed or greenhouse having a few cups of tea and a blether with other gardeners checking my seed stock to see what i will have to buy in for the coming season.
Yes its al go but its worth it so off to have another cup of tea.
Here we go again
digger65 Posted at 20:50 on Sun, 01/04/2009Well we are now into the month of January the hang overs gone and its down to business.
Ist important job done paid the lotto rent ordered in the seed potatoes usually get them in February.
Now its out with the calendar and start adding in the important dates for the coming season like planting times local shows committee meetings and anything else i can think off.
Checking to see if i will need any seeds ordered .
Another job for this month to tidy up the allotment and get rid of the rubish.
New years resolution to give away anything i am not going to use so others can get the benefit instead of it lying there gathering dust.
The most important have a cup of tea with my lotto friends and discuss what we hope to achieve this season.

Suzie Posted at 11:36 on Wed, 02/18/2009Wilkinsons have all their seed potatoes in now and are £3.00 a bag. Veggie seeds are good value at 40p to a £1.00 and a good stock of flower seeds. Just thought it might be worth a look. Sunshine Suzie x

October 2010 growing calendar
graphicsgirl Posted at 17:28 on Thu, 09/23/2010Hi everyone, I'm glad to have found my way here - it looks a fantastic site.
My plot is still burgeoning with beans, turnips, beetroot, carrots and leeks and a few marrow which is still going strong. When all is harvested I can't wait to try the green manure. What a brilliant idea.
This week I plan to plant garlic (loads) and broad beans for over wintering - any tips you can give me for the broad beans?
One tip I have been given for garlic is to dig in lots of blood fish and bone one week before you plant the garlic and only peel the skin off when you're going to plant.
Broad Beans
lottyman Posted at 06:45 on Mon, 02/14/2011Hello Graphics Girl
I've only just joined this forum myself Plant the correct variety of Broad Bean for over wintering ( Read the label ) but as an experiment my advice is to plant the same type beans in pots or trays in Jan/Feb and see which has the biggest crop. I think you will find the ones planted later will produce the most beans because there are no insects early in the year to pollinate the flowers
