Onion Hoe
Hi... new to this site and now into my 2nd year as an Allotmenteer. Have read that onions should either be weeded by hand or by using an "Onion Hoe", in the shape of a swan's neck?? Not quite sure what's meant by this.... can anyone help? Soon to be on crutches for 12 weeks, starting 9th March, so I'm going to need all the help I can muster if the weeds are going to be kept at bay. Thanks.
hi , an onion hoe is a small version of your normal size one, about 18" long with a swan shaped neck .it means getting down on your knee,s or working at a low level, but you dont do as much damage to your crops as you do with a large one if you have a bad weed problem ,im now 70 and i find it easy to go on my knees but getting up needs a crane at times ,hope this helps .best wishes bob
I've found one on-line and ordered it. As I've inherited most of my gardening tools from my Dad, this was one item that I can't recall him ever having. I wish he was still around for me to show it to him. Many thanks for your help Bob. Regards, Brenda
