Onion strings
Hi, i have a double allotment plot and am in my first year of allotmenteering, its fantastic i love being there, i have had some successes and some failures: i have a healthy crop of onions drying on my patio and would like to make a string of them, the french allo allo type things, does anybody know how please, i have a memory of a loop of string and platting the onion tails through? does this sound familiar to anybody? i also have a big!!! horseradish problem i am fighting a loosing battle as it has roots to hell and back, any tips?

Like you are plaiting hair, but I use 2 string, 1 onion and then you are left with a plait that you can hang up.
Hope that helps.
Does anyone know how to plait onions and have a video camera they could use to film it? If so, we could put the video on the site as a tutorial.
I've got some video equipment and could film someone making a string of onions but it would have to be in the London area.
I've no idea what the proper way of doing it is but I've done mine this year simply by putting the dried foliage stems together and then just tying string around them.
I tied two or three onions at a time until I had a whole string and it's worked very well - they look good to hanging up in my kitchen too.
