Parakeets
I spent an interesting evening last Friday watching the parakeets feeding on the sunflowers on the site. Has everyone else noticed them? I had wondered what had rippped the top off my daughter's sunflower the night before when my plot neighbour alerted me to screeching and very agitated magpies. A couple of minutes later about five or six of the green menace flew over to settle on some nearby sunflowers.
They don't seem to restrict themselves to sunflowers either, I have seen nearby pumpkins neatly topped and hollowed out like boiled eggs. Perhaps they will replace the christmas robin on our allotment calendar in a few years!
Any idea where they may be nesting? and are there any nearby flocks?

Parakeets
Mike Posted at 16:47 on Sat, 10/11/2008I've seen them on the allotment too. It looks like there are a lot of them and they look beautiful.
However one of my neighbouring allotmenteers says they descended on his grapes and ate the whole lot in a 24 hour period. He says he's going to net his grapes in future and has never had to do that before.
