peat free compost

hi ken, as the peat appears to be running out of supply,we will be relying on the like of multi purpose compost which i use all the time with no problems there are plenty of choices to choose from but you wont go far wrong with levingtons , and the most popular in our allotment shops here in hull seem to be westlands and ive just gone through 12 bags to top up my new raised beds so im happy to use it all the time , hope this helps , regards bob

Unfortunately even the majority of multi-purpose composts contain peat. Levingtons for example contains 70% peat and 30% green waste (last time i checked).
Your best option is to look for clearly labelled bags which indicate the compost is peat free. A few examples can be seen as follows:

I have never used a bought peat free compost.
I use the compost i make myself from the garden waste i collect and if i do by compost it is normally a multi purpose one made by Bulrush and find it very good for seeds potting up and anything else.
I have tried a lot of various brands like levingtons and one which i think is the worst rip offs John Innes so i would say to you make your own you know what's went into it and save your money.Dave
