Hi,

I'm told some local councils are offering free compost made from recycled food waste - does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks,

Recyled compost

Hi. As a committee we have looked into the free compost. We are not happy with the way it is made, everything from peelings to meat is added and we think that with all the hormones injected into meat it would not be a good idea.
Also it comes in a lorry load of 15 tons or more which would not even get in our gates and if it did there would be no where to store it.

RECYCLED COMPOST

Our council has been giving theres away for a number of years now but they only use it themselves for mulching around shrubbery etc.
I know at one time it used to be taken away by other companies in bulk for treatment and for adding different trace elements to it before it was baged and put on sale.
Some of our allotment holders use it but only for bulking up there ground and usualy they would only do this at the end of the season.
The way we look at it is if the council are only going to use it as a mulch then that's all we would use it for as well and it must be only fit for that purpose as they buy in tons of Bullrush compost every year for there gardens and bringing on plants.
If we want there compost we can have six bags free but many of us dont take this offer up.
