I thinking of buying a rotovator - does anyone have any recommendations for a good one. I'd prefer one that was easy to manage - any preferably cheap!

I think if you have a look in b+q, in thier end of season sale my neighbour got one which was reduced by nearly 50%, he also got a generator for less than £80

Hi Pat21
I'm sorry for the late reply but I only recently joined the forum. If your allotment is clean I would recommend a backsaver spade and a Mantis tiller.
Click onto Google and type in back saver spade and there is a short video showing it in action. When you get the hang of how to use it ,it is possible to dig a clean allotment in just 4 or 5 hours with hardly an effort at all Then the small mantis is used to prepare the soil for seed setting and loosening soil between crops. the handles fold in two a lady can carry it with one hand and it fits easily into the boot of the smallest car

tiller

Hi Pat
Just to let you know, I paid £239 two years ago for a mantis tiller, and I do have to say its paid me back already, I had a vauxhall tigra (VERY small boot) and it folded down and went straight in, I now have a renault clio and it fits in there with all of my other things too!I would also like to add that I am a 30year old and I am about 9 stone wet through so needless to say it weighs very little! I have no problems lifting carrying, constructing or using my mantis! I LOVE IT! Also if you order it from Mantis direct they do an interest free installment plan, I paid it off over 4 (I think) months as I didnt have it all at once to lay out. I hope this helps you in your quest for a rotovator!.

The Mantis is a reasonably good Rotovater, being light and easy to carry around although it is only a two stroke engine. A far better machine is the 2.5 hp four stroke FG200 Honda. The cost is in the region of £350, but may be able to pick one up second hand.
