Tips for saving money/recycling etc
Did a search on here and none came up so thought it would be a good idea to share how we save money on our plots from buying in bulk to recycling etc.
I don't use plant labels, I cut used milk cartons into strips and find these are just as good and last the season.
I only buy seeds when they are in the sale or on 3 for 2 offer. I've even planted seeds that are years out of date and they've still come through.
I've found it much cheaper to buy scaffolding netting on a huge roll than to continually buy pea and bean netting from the garden centre which doesn't last very long as the plastic breaks easily when I cover my brassicas.
Instead of buying the brown cardboard/peat type pots I make my own newspaper pots for direct transplanting for root veg.
I use fizzy pop or water bottles (which I have lots of) as cane ends, I've also seen plots with pop cans instead.
I can't wait to read what tips you all have, especially Lottyman with his many years experience. I'll try and think of more but I've found when it's second nature it's difficult to think of what you do!

I too use newspaper pots, toilet/ kitchen roll tubes as pots also yoghurt pots, if i go to mcdonalds the tea stirrers make good markers, cut 2litre coke bottles in half to make bell cloches, cut the bottoms off the coke bottles then push into grow bags upside down & fill with water for my tomatoes, basically if i think i can make use of it on my plot i will even if its only for a year.
