Can anyone give me some feedback on whether it is easy/difficult to upload their picture for the site or if there is any other reason people are not doing it much?

I mean the personal picture like my Tintin one to the left. (although obviously it doesn't have to be of Tintin!)

Thanks,

Tumbledown

Upload your picture.

Just joined about 5 minutes ago & I found this very easy. I was once developer/administrator for a very busy, very succesful angling site (before loosing interest in the sport) and I therefore recognise that everyone is at a different 'level' when it comes to knowledge of all things computing. We found that a 'How To' (post pictures, change avatar, create a signature, etc) section giving a detailed procedure usually helped especially if each step was covered by pictures or diagrams that the member could easily follow.

Thanks

Thanks Mr Potato Head, that's a very good idea and we'll get onto it straight away.
Hope you enjoy the site.

hi to all
Like most learning curves it is simpler when you have done something similar before.
After several attempts I find the instructions on my personal account page make sense. I am looking through the images on my computer that end with .jpg

Avatars and Photos

I have been asked by my Dad to respond to this question about photo uploads, as I know he would very much like to be able to add photographs to forum posts, not just to blogs, as seems to be the case at the present.

The little images you have under your name should not really be called pictures and I think this is getting people a little confused. The image which goes along with your name is known as an Avatar and is set on the page with all your account details. It's quite easy to do, provided you follow the instructions on the page.

What seems to be impossible is to upload a picture into any forum posts. This is what I think people would like to be able to do, but can't at the moment. Would I be right in thinking this is because not all the relevant HTML tags have been enabled for use by members?

Were the relevant HTML ( etc.) tags to be enabled, members could then link to images hosted remotely on their own image sharing sites such as Flickr and Photobucket. This should also help this site out because the actual image is inserted every time the post is viewed from the photo host and would save some bandwidth.

So to cut a long story short, what I'm saying is if it would be possible to enable other HTML tags then members could insert their own images to illustrate their posts and also other content such as Youtube video clips.

Having said all this, I'm not an expert, so please let me know if there is indeed a way of uploading images into posts that I have not found.

Just a thought,

Andrew. Lottyman's Son

Uploading photo's

Hi Andrew and Lottyman, sorry know nothing about HTML's etc, but if your dad want's to add a photo to his gallery, but not as part of a blog can he not do it by selecting create content, then image? I always use the blog option, but I think this does work.

If it doesn't work you could PM Tumbledown, who was most helpful with my photo issue.

I feel partly responsible as I have been hounding him for photo's of his plots, I can't wait to see them!

Kind Regards
Hayley

P.S I liked the calenders Lottyman.

Pictures in forum posts

Hi Everyone,

I don't think there is any reason why we couldn't upload images to forum posts - I'll try to sort it out over the next few days.

And I'd love to see more people add their own avatars (the little pics under the names in posts). I designed that default scarecrow one and I'm sick to death of it now!

scarecrow

Hello everybody
Tumbledown keeps helping us so lets help him for a change. He would like us all to get rid of the scarecrow on our posts, so here is how I did it.
1 After reading this go back to home page
2 Click My plot
3 Click Edit
4 Scroll down and click select choose file and that shows your jpg photos
5 Select one of the photos by clicking on it and the surround will turn blue
6 Click open
7 Scroll down then click save and hey presto as if by magic the scarecrow is gone and is replaced with your selected photo

Do it now please !!!!
Happy gardening

Uploading Photographs

Hello everyone especially Hayley
Thanks to Hayley at 4bFieldHouse and my son Andrew I am now able to upload pictures onto my blog. so hear is how to do it. First of all you have to take a series of photographs with a digital camera then load them onto your computer.
1 go to home page
2 Scroll down and click blogs
3 Scroll down a bit further then click my blog
4 click post new blog entry
5 enter your own title
6 Scroll down and click choose file
7select a photo by clicking on it
8 click open
9 click upload
10 click preview
11 If you want a series of photo's click add another file then choose file and upload. If you preview each photo you can remove any unwanted ones then click save to keep the rest

I think that's it but if I'm wrong please say so
Happy clicking
Lottyman

Changing avatar/scarecrow/picture

Hello Zena
Sorry to see you are having difficulty changing the scarecrow into your picture. Go back to the home page again and find the instructions titled SCARECROW. Follow the instructions and that should change your scarecrow into the picture you have selected. It automatically changes the size of your picture to the size of your scarecrow.
Uploading your pictures is a different set of instructions titled UPLOADING PHOTOGRAPHS
I apologise if it sounds as if I am writing to someone who is thick but that is definitely not the case its just my way of doing my level best to help
If you still have difficulty Make sure your pictures are loaded onto the computer and in a jpg format
If it still will not work then post all your actions one by one and I will try and see where you are going wrong
Best of luck
Lottyman
PS If the scarecrow does not work try UPLOADING PHOTOGRAPHS

I eventually solved my problem by cropping the picture first - here I am with my bumper crop of sweet peas!

Hello Zena
All you seem to have done is changed the avatar (Scarecrow) into your picture
To do just that you need to follow the instructions titled scarecrow. You should not need to crop your photo's unless you are cutting one particular part out of a large photo
Make sure your photo's are properly loaded on to the computer then you can upload as many as you like in what order you like by using the instructions titled upload photographs and follow them closely
Just click blogs on the homepage to see some examples
When I first wrote the instructions I wrote them again using pen and paper just to make sure I was doing it right everytime
Please have a go because I and others look forward to viewing your photo's
When taking photo's on the plot take photo's of the good bits but also the bad bits
so that we can offer you advice to make it all good
Look forward to seeing the photo's

Hello Zena
Glad to hear you are going to share some pictures with us and I for one look forward to seeing them
Have you seen my blog for my latest batch. I am trying to prove to people through my pictures that being neat and keeping the plot's clean helps to minimise attacks from slugs etc
Can't wait for the pic's

My allotment photos

Hi Lottyman

I've now uploaded some photos into my blog.

We've learnt the hard way that the only way to keep those darned weeds down is to hoe, hoe, hoe - it's a very relaxing pursuit I find!
