Urchin Allotmenteers
Welcome to my Urchin group.
As a Dad of 3 little girls I was inspired to start my plot to give them a place to run about, get covered in mud and learn about food all at the same time. As I'm new to this Allotment lark I am looking for ways to involve them in the process from start to finish and this group is aimed at everyone with kids who'd like them to be involved in their plot too.
My aims from this group:
- A place to ask questions relating to kids & allotments
- A place to share your experiences
- A place to post your hints and tips for getting kids involved
Join up and have a happy day in the soil

HELP!!!!
Hi
I have just found the onion galic and shallots i brought to plant in Autumn, but couldn't find them at the time so I didn't.
Does anybody know if I am too late to plant these now.(Obviously once the snow has gone), or am i just best scrapping them and getting fresh for spring?
They are
Picardy wight garlic
Electric - red onion sets
Picasso shallots
Thanks hellsbells
Blackberries
I've been trying all year to get the kids interested in growing fruit and veg and now it turns out the thing they really love is the blackberries which grow wild on the edge of our allotment and they haven't had anything to do with growing
Jobs for the boys!!!
I am in charge of 10 lads, 10 and 11 years old, with "issues" and we have an Allotment on a really well appointed site. We are so lucky to have loads of help and advice from other allotmenteers who have plots around us.
Some help please
I am new to the website and i got my plot about 1 1/2 years ago. I am still working at clearing bits as alot of it was left to grass, which to make it easier for me i mowed last year.
But this year i am up for it.
Seeds for kids
I bought my kids seeds especially for children. They loved the colourful packets and had a great time planting things like cress, dwarf sunflowers and giant pumpkins (alright, they didn't work but that was probably the adults fault!)
It really helped them take an interest in the allotment.
Scarecrows, Pumpkins and Sunflowers
No plot for kids would be complete without Scarecrows, pumpkins and sunflowers. Does anyone have experiences to share for the group around making a scarecrow or growing big pumpkins? Or how about tales of how you keep your kids amused on the plot. I usually have to take some or all of my kids with me and need some advise on how to keep them amused.
