Hi new to this great site and as Im am a virgin allotment holder I have started a blog to log my first year of growing.

your new plot

looks good.not overgrown.if i was just starting,i would not try to bring it all at once into shape.section by section,but get it right.maybe raised beds,using scaffold boards.put what humous you can get in these first beds.good luck,it takes time to get it all up to scratch,regards

New Plot - Horse Manure

Just read your blog - best of luck. I remember my first plot (I have a really long memory) well and used horse manure from the local stables !!!!! DISASTER.

Make sure that the manure that you use is WELL ROTTED. Horse manure can take three years to deteriorate and still it will contain seeds. Horses do njot digest their food very well and leave a lot of seeds which when turned into the soil just grow. BEWARE
