Yellow Courgettes
Has anybody grown the yellow variety of courgette Gold Rush??? I was fed up of picking 3 green courgettes a day alast year and thought a different colour might brighten some of the dishes up. They are so dissapointing they are just slightly bigger then a finger and pretty tastless. the plants themselves are doing very well and they have all been kept well watered and are in raised beds with horse poo underneath the roots. Any suggestions why they are so poor and slow growing???
I shall go back to boring green ones next year.
Regards
Hayley
Hello Hayley
I don't grow courgette or sqashes but I think I have seen somewhere that Gold Rush only grow finger size I'll find out for definite from Lady Lavender 'cos she's a courgette expert.
Happy gardening

Hello Hayley
I made enquiries about your Gold Rush courgette and she says use Phostrogen every time you water and the fruits take longer to mature than the green ones.
Its probably due to the high potash content in the phostrogen.
Best of luck for next time

Thanks Lottyman I will give it a go, but not sure there will be a next time!!!

Hi Hayley
I'm growing the yellow ones this year, for a change, and they are doing great. Started picking them small just over a week ago.
Zena
Hi Zena, I have to take back everythig horrible I said about them, it has taken several weeks of picking for them to purk up, they are still slightly smaller then green ones, but are not finger sized like they were. They look so much nicer in ratatoue? (is that how you spell it) and curry etc so they are making their way back on the potentials for next year. Glad you are enjoying yours aswell.
Hayley
What I love about them is that they are easier to spot amongst the foliage than the green ones. I missed tons last year and ended up with loads of marrows!!! I'm having the same trouble with my mange tout this year - keep missing them and they are maturing into proper peas!!!

Some show judges seem to prefer them to the green ones on the show benches.
Hello, could anybody kindly recomend a type of cauliflower that is generally easy to grow, as for many years i have been unsuccesful. thanx.
